Despite the advanced information technology's impact on the extent and availability of digital information, information access is not equally attainable to everyone. The lack of cultural and linguistic diversity in information systems and infrastructure has raised concerns over limited access to digital information, which also harms the information environment. For example, a flood of misinformation and disinformation during the pandemic rendered misrepresentation of cultures and fed the fear of people from different cultures. The “deep learning” revolution has enabled advances in cross‐language search technology and in automated translation of content from one language to another, but the lowering of linguistic barriers to information access, in turn, serves to highlight the need for a comparable degree of focus on cultural differences. The proposed panel will discuss cultural and linguistic diversity as manifested in various information systems and infrastructures and review past and current information systems and practices either lacking or supporting cultural and linguistic diversity.

Ontologies are emerging technology in building knowledge based information retrieval systems. It is used to conceptualize the information in human understandable manner. Knowledge based information retrieval are widely used in the domain like Education, Artificial Intelligence, Healthcare and so on. It is important to provide multilingual information of those domains to facilitate multi-language users. In this paper, we propose a MOnto (Multilingual Ontology) methodology to develop multilingual ontology applications for education domain. New algorithms are proposed for merging and mapping multilingual ontologies.

Similarly, not enough evidence exists with regard their role as contributors to multilingual web accessibility. This paper presents the initial results of a study carried out with the goal of clarifying localisers' involvement in the achievement of web accessibility. Data gathered suggest that (1) localisation experts should have web accessibility knowledge as part of their skills set; and that (2) localisers' participation in multilingual web assessment for accessibility would be of added-value for evaluators. RESUM (Cap a una definició del paper del localitzador en la consecució de llocs web multilingües més accessibles) Tenir coneixements sobre accessibilitat no constitueix habitualment un requisit per a desenvolupar tasques de localització de forma professional. D'igual manera, existeix poca informació sobre el paper que podria tenir el localitzador en la consecució d'una web més accessible. Les dades incloses en aquest article, recollides a partir d'una enquesta realitzada a experts en accessibilitat web indiquen que (1), els localitzadors haurien d'adquirir coneixements sobre accessibilitat com a part de la seva formació i que (2), les seves competències professionals podrien de ser rellevants durant l'avaluació de l'accessibilitat web de llocs web multilingües.
