“…On the other hand, fingers’ onyxis was more frequent in women than men (85.4% vs. 77.5%), whereas no gender predominance was shown in toes’ onyxis (74.8% vs. 73.7%). In this respect, our results are similar to many previous studies 6,12–14 ; in other studies, however, a female predominance was reported for all localisations 1,3,15 . The higher proportion of hand onyxis in women may again be attributed to the aesthetic factors because the damage is more obvious in hands as compared with feet, so that the frequency of feet onyxis looks similar in both sexes.…”
