Abstract: HighlightsSpontaneous splenic rupture should be considered in patients presenting with peritonism without preceding trauma.Haematological and infectious causes, including Varicella Zoster, should be sought when investigating spontaneous splenic rupture.There is limited published guidance regarding the surgical options when faced with spontaneous splenic rupture.
