OpenBloodFlow: A User-Friendly OpenCV-Based Software Package for Blood Flow Velocity and Blood Cell Count Measurement for Fish Embryos

Abstract: The transparent appearance of fish embryos provides an excellent assessment feature for observing cardiovascular function in vivo. Previously, methods to conduct vascular function assessment were based on measuring blood-flow velocity using third-party software. In this study, we reported a simple software, free of costs and skills, called OpenBloodFlow, which can measure blood flow velocity and count blood cells in fish embryos for the first time. First, videos captured by high-speed CCD were processed for be… Show more

“…The DICOM format data were converted to PNG without manually segmenting the backdrop to eliminate it ( 12 ); instead, the resultant pictures were processed using Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) to ensure that they matched the original acquisition. With the help of the OpenCV ( 28 ), the CLAHE parameter, the clipLimit was 2.0, and the tileGridSize was (8, 8). The dataset was randomly partitioned into a training set (80%), a validation set (10%), and a test set (10%).…”

“…OpenCV is an open-source cross-platform computer vision and machine learning software library [15] that is used for the comprehensive processing of images, can complete detection and recognition tasks, and can track targets, widely used in the field of computer vision. In terms of defect detection, it can be processed according to the process in Figure 2, and these small-area defects can be extracted using morphological algorithms in OpenCV, such as corrosion, expansion, open operation, closed operation, etc.…”
