Opening the window for electroweak baryogenesis

Abstract: We perform an analysis of the behaviour of the electroweak phase transition in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, in the presence of light stops. We show that, in previously unexplored regions of parameter space, the order parameter v(T c )/T c can become significantly larger than one, for values of the Higgs and supersymmetric particle masses consistent with the present experimental bounds. This implies that baryon number can be efficiently generated at the electroweak phase transition. As a by-produc… Show more

“…Notice that, independently of the experimental bounds, larger values of A t / m would lead to an instability of the electroweak minimum. Moreover values of A t / m 0.5 are also required in order to obtain a strong enough electroweak phase transition [6]. On the other hand the rough estimate tan β 10 [14,16], coming from the requirement of generation of the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe, pushes the parameter m towards values m ≫ 1 TeV which justifies a posteriori the study of the effective theory with resummed logarithms.…”

“…Finally for the proper vertex threshold ∆λ (∆K) it is easier to match the one-loop Higgs (stop) LE and HE effective potentials, instead of performing the matching diagrammatically (see Fig. 11) 6 .…”

“…However, this value should be taken with caution since the veto of any hard real radiation jets due to our selection cuts could reduce the effective size of the radiative corrections, an effect that is partially but not precisely reproduced by the parton shower in Pythia. 2 After application of the cuts and the K-factor rescaling the signal event number for 100 fb −1 is shown in table 1 for various values of the stop and neutralino masses. Figure 1 shows the distribution of the photon transverse energy for the SM background and the stop signal for mt 1 = 130 GeV and mχ0 1 = 110 GeV (i.e.…”
