Operation of Inductive Charging Systems Under Misalignment Conditions: A Review for Electric Vehicles

Abstract: Inductive power transfer (IPT) for Electric Vehicles (EVs) is an emerging technology that can transfer power wirelessly over certain distances, thus offering some remarkable characteristics in terms of flexibility, position and movability. The output power of an IPT system depends on the coupling factor of the magnetic couplers which can deviates from the nominal operating conditions due to occurrence of misalignment. Nevertheless, misalignment of the magnetic couplers in inductive charging is inevitable, and … Show more

“…As a different specific case study, the use of data transmission between both parts of the circuit is proposed to carry out the synchronisation between the primary and secondary power converters [75], [76]. In WPT systems where control over the converters on both sides is implemented [77], it is of substantial importance to synchronise the signals that activate the power converters. This is mandatory to control the power flows in Vehicle to Grid (V2G) operations based on a phasedelay technique [78].…”

“…The lower the complexity, the lower the cost. Some complex geometries are proposed in the related literature for wireless chargers when some factors (such as misalignment) are present [20]. However, these particularities are not present in our application and simple coil geometries provide a similar performance than complex and more expensive coils.…”
