In recent years, global environmental problems such as air pollution and the greenhouse effect have become more and more serious. The utilization of biomass energy not only can promote low-carbon transformation to establish a competitive advantage through value creation under the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality but is also an important force in solving environmental problems. Government subsidy policies play an important role in promoting the development of biomass energy utilization. Taking straw as an example, this paper constructs a straw recycling supply chain system dynamics model consisting of farmers, acquisition stations, power plants, and pyrolysis plants based on a real-world case. Two types of straw processing, namely power generation and pyrolysis, are considered in the model. This paper analyzes the economic and environmental impacts of three subsidy policies, namely the unified rate policy, the linear growth policy, and a two-step policy, by comparing the profit, carbon, and pollution emission reduction benefits of the supply chain under different subsidy scenarios. The result shows that, among the three subsidy policies, the unified rate policy shows the best-promoting effect. The research results and policy implications in this paper could be a reference for governments trying to formulate subsidy policies for developing biomass energy utilization.

PurposeThe paper proposes a two-level closed-loop supply chain (CLSC) dynamic competitive model based on different competitive cooperation situations, and explores the impact of competitive cooperation methods on the pricing strategies, recycling and remanufacturing strategies and competitive model selection strategies of supply chain firms.Design/methodology/approachThis paper establishes a CLSC game consisting of a manufacturer and two retailers. Firstly, five CLSC models are established in both horizontal and vertical dimensions, each of which competes with one another. Secondly, the recycling and remanufacturing pricing strategies are analyzed under different competition or cooperation models. Finally, the results are verified through numerical analysis.FindingsThe overall profitability of the CLSC is highest when the manufacturer–retailer partnership alliance is in place. The relationship between retailers and manufacturers is also found to be the best way to achieve overall optimization of the CLSC.Originality/valueThe paper investigates the relationship between the competitive partnership and the total profit of the CLSC, taking into account how to optimize the overall benefit, and focusing on how to optimize the individual interests of each participating enterprise. The results can provide basis and guidance for managers' pricing decision and competition cooperation.

Evolution of the Behavioural Strategies of Stakeholders in Green Supply within Government Compensation Mechanisms

Since economic development and environmental protection constitute a multidimensional and complex interaction process, government regulatory mechanisms, as policy tools for green development, have become significant means for environmental conservation. The motivation of this paper is to reveal the government’s promotion mechanism for the green development of the supply chain. To achieve this objective, an evolutionary game model (EGM) method is applied in this paper. The specific steps of this method include the following: a unified theoretical analysis framework was first developed in which integrated suppliers (ISs), government agencies (GAs), and financial institutions (FIs) were integrated into the EGM. Second, on the basis of dynamic evolution and differential equations, the evolution and stabilisation strategies of the stakeholders were examined separately. Finally, adopting a supply chain that includes ISs, GAs, and FIs as a case study, stability strategies under changes in various parameters were investigated. The research results indicated that the behavioural strategies of GAs could serve as a weathervane for ISs and FIs. Within a certain range, government compensation mechanisms could positively impact product R&D, as well as IS green development, while the government subsidy phase-out system could be more suitable at the maturity stage. The contribution of this paper is to provide methodological support for the operational decision-making of GAs, FIs, and ISs.
