The cognitive radio (CR) technique has revealed a novel way of utilizing the precious radio spectrum via allowing unlicensed users to opportunistically access unutilized licensed bands. Using such a technique enables agile and flexible access to the radio spectrum and can resolve the spectrum-scarcity problem and maximize spectrum efficiency. However, two major impediments have been limiting the widespread adoption of cognitive radio technology. The software-defined radio technology, which is the enabling technology for the CR technique, is power-hungry and this raises a major concern for battery-constrained devices such as smart phones and laptops. Secondly, the opportunistic and open nature of the CR can lead to major security concerns about the data being sent and how safe it is. In this paper, we introduce an energy-and-security-aware CR-based communication approach that alleviates the power consumption of the CR technique and enhances its security measures according to the confidentiality level of the data being sent. Furthermore, the proposed approach takes into account user-related factors, such as the users battery level and users data type, and network-related factors, such as the number of unutilized bands and vulnerability level and then models the research question as a constrained optimization problem. Considering the time complexity of the optimum solution, we also propose a heuristic solution. We examine the proposed solution against existing solutions, and our obtained results show that the proposed approach can save energy consumption up to 18%, increase user throughput up to 20%, and achieve better spectrum utilization, up to 98%. Our proposed admission approach has the potential to open a new research direction towards safer and greener cognitive radio techniques. This work reports a common indoor experimental coexistence performance analysis among 5G New Radio (5G NR), 4G Long Term Evolution Advanced Pro (LTE-A Pro) and Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT), using co-channel and adjacent channels in the 700 MHz Band. The required frequency offset for the 4G and 5G generations simultaneous operation has been evaluated, as a function of the modulation scheme in order to minimize the adjacent channel interference. A suitable management of the numerology and allocating time-frequency resources, configuring CORESET, enables a peaceful coexistence, as well as high performance for all evaluated systems. Experimental results demonstrate an efficient spectrum sharing of 10 MHz-bandwidth for a 5G NR, an LTE-A Pro and three NB-IoT downlink carriers, aiming to take advantage of 700 MHz propagation aspects for the current 4G and future 5G. Constellation and error vector magnitude (EVMRMS) in accordance to the 3GPP requirements reinforce the successful 4G and 5G spectrum refarming implementation.

La cuarta revolución industrial, conocida como Industria 4.0, promueve que los sistemas físicos industriales estén conectados al mundo digital, forzando que las organizaciones salgan de su statu quo. Esta realidad representa un antecedente para que las organizaciones conciban esta nueva revolución para poder migrar a este paradigma desde donde se encuentren actualmente. El objetivo principal de este artículo es conocer los retos y desafíos que trae consigo la cuarta revolución industrial para las organizaciones, a través de exteriorizar su importancia y características, y explicando su influencia en aspectos relacionados a su implementación en las organizaciones. La metodología exploratoria empleada incluye una revisión de literatura en las bases de datos científicas más importantes, en aspectos específicos como: las revoluciones industriales, rasgos característicos de la Industria 4.0, y su influencia en las organizaciones. En los resultados se puede evidenciar el influjo de las distintas revoluciones industriales, los detalles intrínsecos de la Industria 4.0, la atención que puede requerir su implementación dentro de las organizaciones, y abrir la posibilidad de tener un enfoque de organización 4.0 sostenible. Finalmente, se concluye que para migrar a la Industria 4.0, una organización debe entender los retos en la gestión de sus operaciones, del talento humano, energética, operativa, estratégica y de sostenibilidad.
