Abstract: Molecular self-assembly of amyloid-beta peptides to form fibrillar aggregates is a known cause of Alzheimer's disease. Although homogeneous nucleation of amyloid-beta is unfavorable, heterogeneous nucleation of amyloid-beta in cell membranes plays a key role in fibril formation.
