Optical biometry of the anterior eye segment: Interexaminer and intraexaminer reliability of ACMaster

Abstract: Partial coherence interferometry measurements of anterior chamber distances (corneal thickness, ACD, lens thickness) using the prototype of ACMaster were highly reliable, allowing examiner-independent measurements. However, lens thickness measurements in cataract eyes were often difficult.

“…22,23 To provide high-precision CCT measurements with low interobserver and intersession variability, the measurements in this study were performed using ACMaster, which is based on the principle of partial coherence interferometry as reported previously. 19,[24][25][26] To our knowledge, only 1 study 16 described 9 cases of irreversible corneal decompensation after use of dorzolamide. All those patients had a history of previous intraocular surgery (penetrating keratoplasty, cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery).…”

“…7 Interoperator variability was previously studied for other medical devices like optical coherence tomography (OCT), 8 the BVI ultrasonic Pachymeter, 9 the GD Â VCC, 7 and the prototype of the ACMaster. 10 Other devices for visual field testing such as the Humphrey or Octopus perimeters were analysed in detail for test/retest variability. [11][12][13][14][15] Intra-and interrater agreement of psychophysical tests was investigated regarding the Functional Field Score 16 and cumulative defect curves.…”

“…The most accurate of these is dual-beam partial coherence interferometry (PCI). [14][15][16] Another is anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT). 18,19 Additional techniques of ACD measurement include traditional A-scan biometry, high-frequency ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM), scanning-slit topography, and Scheimpflug videokeratography.…”
