Optical correlator-neural network hybrid system for many patterns recognition

Abstract: In this paper it is proposed and demonstrated optical correlator-neural network architecture for many pattern recognition. An intelligent training scheme is employed to train the hybrid system so that similarities in the input patterns are used efficiently. Both computer simulation and experimental results are presented for recognition of characters from the English alphabetic.
