Optical properties of polymer films with embedded single‐wall carbon nanotubes

Abstract: In this work the thin polymer films (based on polyvinyl alcohol or carboxymetylcellulose) containing single-wall carbon nanotubes synthesized by different methods have been fabricated by a novel technology and studied in detail by UV-VIS -NIR optical absorption and Raman scattering techniques. The films are prospective as an optical material with a high non-linearity. This property allows using them as ultra-fast saturable absorbers in different laser schemes, especially, in fiber lasers. The optical spectrosc… Show more

“…The NALM is formed by a 20:80 fibre coupler and dispersion managed by normal dispersion germanium-silica fibre (GeO 2 /SiO 2 ) [239]. A polymer film based on carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) with dispersed arc discharge SWNTs [243] is fixed between two angle-polished optical ferrules. The shortest pulse duration of 450 fs at 1870 nm central wavelength band (insert in Figure 18A) has been achieved when the total was zero NALM dispersion.…”

“…The only exception we have www.pss-b.com observed is the peak in suspension with an excitation at 680 nm and emission at 1260 nm which shows a 5 nm (14 meV) blue shifted PLE. It corresponds, probably, to (9,5) nanotubes.…”

“…The polymer films with embedded SWNTs were prepared by mixing 1 mL SWNT suspension with 1 mL 3% (w/v) carboxymetylcellulose (medium viscosity, SigmaAldrich) [9]. The films have been formed by a slow drying in a small diameter cup.…”

“…The fractions with the shifted dominant absorption peaks can be used for formation of ultra fast light beam modulators (saturable absorbers) in laser physics [6]. DGU allows to extend significantly their working spectral range and quantum efficiency by adjusting the characteristics of the separated SWNT fractions to exact wavelengths [7]. The amount of SWNT fraction in the raw material obtained was around 20%.…”
