Optical Reshaping Technology to Reduce PMD Transmission Impairments

Abstract

We propose an optical reshaping technique to mitigate the transmission eye distortions caused by fiber PMD effect. Significant improvement of eye opening has been experimentally demonstrated. Our results have shown that ~2 dB eye opening was observed at small DGD values (≤ 30 ps), and ~4 dB improvement of eye opening was achieved at 60 ps DGD.
