“…In contrast, while Ω = 0 in the E 3 Π 0 state, the large Λ−doublet splitting indicates strong mixing with higher electronic excited states, and so by analogy with the B 3 Π 0 optical Zeeman measurements of [32], we estimate the magnetic moment to be ∼ 10 times that of the X 3 ∆ 1 . This, combined with the narrowness of the E 3 Π ↔ X 3 ∆ transition, implies that the dynamics of a TiO ER-MOT will have more in common with narrow-line alkaline-earth MOTs [33] than normal alkali metal MOTs.…”

“…The constrained g l value was obtained from the Curl relationship. The quantum number assignments of the field-free and Zeeman spectra were greatly assisted by modeling the spectra, the process of which has been described previously (Steimle et al 2004;Virgo et al 2005). The predicted spectra, such as those given in Figures 1-3, were obtained by co-adding the individual spectral features obtained using a rotational temperature of 10 K and a Lorentzian linewidth of 30 MHz full width at half maximum.…”

“…The supersonic molecular beam production and laser-induced fluorescence optical detection schemes were similar to those used previous for optical Zeeman studies of TiO (Virgo et al 2005) and CaH (Chen et al 2006). A cold (rotational temperature T rot ∼ = 15 K) sample of MgH was generated by laser ablating a solid magnesium rod in the presence of a pulsed supersonic expansion of a (50%)He/(50%)H 2 gas mixture.…”

“…28 The field was calibrated using a commercial Gauss meter. A polarization rotator was used to align the electric field vector of the linearly polarized laser radiation either perpendicular (ΔM J = ± 1) or parallel (ΔM J = 0) to the static magnetic field vector.…”
