Optimal Design Based on Dynamic Characteristics and Experimental Implementation of Submersible Electromagnetic Actuators

Abstract: An optimization procedure based on the dynamic characteristics of a submersible electromagnetic actuator constrained in a specific volume has been developed. In order to achieve the minimum response time and low vibration when the actuator is opened, five radial dimensions are optimized when the main limiting quantity is the maximum allowed temperature. Three models, including a thermal model, an electromagnetic model, and a mechanical model are constructed, and optimization calculation is performed by using M… Show more

“…Real design involves going from the right to the left of Figure as already mentioned. Some good examples of such real design combining analysis with optimization are by B. Cai who with his coworkers has optimized submersible electromagnetic actuators and solenoid valves , and gone on to tackle electro‐thermal multi‐physics systems , thereby demonstrating the power of the methods and their importance in industry and therefore to the curriculum. This is synthesis at its best .…”

“…Batdorff and Lumkes [7] introduced a high-fidelity magnetic equivalent circuit model for an axisymmetric electromagnetic actuator, and it improved the accuracy of conventional magnetic equivalent circuit. Cai et al [8] optimized the plunger, plunger sleeve, coil, and magnetic ring structure parameters of the submersible electromagnetic actuator based on the magnetic equivalent circuit method. Yin et al [9] developed the multiphysical field coupling model of solenoid valve for gasoline direct injection considering the electric, magnetic, and thermal properties employing the finite element method and optimized the armature, core, and coil structure parameters based on the multiobjective-simulated annealing algorithm.…”
