Optimal design of a wireless power transfer system with multiple self-resonators for an LED TV

Abstract: This paper proposes an optimal design method in an asymmetric wireless power transfer (WPT) system for a 150 watt LED TV. The WPT system has three self-resonators: a Tx resonator, an Rx resonator, and an intermediate resonator. The Tx and Rx resonators are perpendicular and offset, respectively, to the intermediate resonator in the geometry. For optimal design, the WPT system is analyzed using an equivalent circuit. In particular, a calculation method for mutual inductance in the system is expressed. The calcu… Show more

“…1 is used as a reference system in this paper. It is designed as a simple 4-coil-system similar to those described in Kurs et al (2007); Kim et al (2012Kim et al ( , 2013; Cheon et al (2011) and Awai et al (2010). Additionally to the resonant coil, a single turn coupling coil is used on both source and load side to form an impedance matching network described in Sect.…”

“…Typical experimental implementations to decrease the channel variation make use of additional impedance matching networks attached to the transfer system (Beh et al, 2013;Waters et al, 2012;Sample et al, 2013) or several switchable coupling coils (Kim et al, 2012). Especially (Sample et al, 2013) shows, that this impedance matching network adds additional resonant peaks in between the resonators main peaks, thus providing the possibility to transfer energy at a fixed frequency.…”

“…WPT Systems proposed in [29][30][31] consist of one source coil, multiple self-resonators and one load coil. A WPT system with four resonant coils is presented in [29], which is designed and implemented for the power supply of micro-implantable medical sensors.…”

“…Magnetically-coupled resonant wireless power transfer (referred to MCR-WPT as below) has attracted a great attention because it's safe, clean and convenient; it has been applied broadly in variety of applications such as wireless sensor networks [1], human implantable medical devices [2,3], RFID tag [4], no-tail TV [5], mobile phone [6] and electric vehicle [7,8]. In recent years, MCR-WPT applications with multiple loads [9, 10] have gradually become a new research hotspot.…”
