Optimal generation scheduling with demand side participation

Abstract

I feel extremely privileged to have carried out my Ph.D research under the guidance of Associate Professor Gooi Hoay Beng. With the deepest insight into the problems, he has inspired and supported me in many different ways to make this project a success. I have learned so much from him. His unfailing confidence and rigorous scholastic attitude will enlighten me for many years to come. I would like to thank the technicians in the Power Engineering Design Lab, Mr. Benny Chia Teck Beng and Miss Christina Wong Chow Pang, for their technical support in the use of computers, software, and other equipment. A special thank goes to all my friends and members of the Power Market Research group. They have made the lab such a wonderful, friendly and intellectually stimulating place. There were so many good memories in and out of the lab. Financial assistance provided by Nanyang Technological University is sincerely appreciated as it supported the completion of my study. As always, I thank my parents and my two excellent sisters, for their unceasing understanding, support and encouragement. Their unwavering love is always my source of strength. Not to forget my brilliant boyfriend Yanlie, I thank him for his patience listening to my grievances and tolerating my frustration during times of setback.
