Optimal management of oropharyngeal and esophageal candidiasis in patients living with HIV infection

Abstract: Mucocutaneous candidiasis is frequently one of the first signs of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Over 90% of patients with AIDS will develop oropharyngeal candidiasis (OPC) at some time during their illness. Although numerous antifungal agents are available, azoles, both topical (clotrimazole) and systemic (fluconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole, posaconazole) have replaced older topical antifungals (gentian violet and nystatin) in the management of oropharyngeal candidiasis in these patients. … Show more

“…30-80% közötti prevalenciájával a mucocutan candidiasis a leggyakoribb fertőzéses eredetű HIV-asszociált dermatosis -egy HIV-fertőzött élete során 90%-os eséllyel alakul ki [15,21]. Amint több tanulmány is megerősítette, megjelenése erősen korrelál az immundefi cientia mérté-kével, a CD4-számmal.…”

“…Amint több tanulmány is megerősítette, megjelenése erősen korrelál az immundefi cientia mérté-kével, a CD4-számmal. Sokszor más opportunista fertő-zés kialakulásának prognosztikai markere, alacsony CD4-számnál történő megjelenése kedvezőtlen prognó-zist jelez [5,15,21]. Leggyakoribb kórokozó a Candida albicans, azonban egyre növekszik a nonalbicans Candida fajok etiológiai szerepe, illetve a kevert fertőzések szá-ma is [21].…”

“…administration, safety profiles, and drug-drug interactions (2,4). Ninety percent of HIV-infected individuals will develop oropharyngeal candidiasis (OPC), and refractory oral candidiasis is currently reported in 4 to 5% of HIVinfected individuals (5). Recent studies have found that 25% of patients on highly active antiretroviral therapy still developed oral Candida infections (6).…”
