Optimal operating conditions for external cavity semiconductor laser optical chaos communication system

Abstract: In optical chaos communications a message is masked in the noise-like broadband output of a chaotic transmitter laser, and message recovery is enabled through the synchronization of the transmitter and the (chaotic) receiver laser. Key issues are to identify the laser operating conditions which provide the highest quality synchronization conditions and those which provide optimized message extraction. In general such operating conditions are not coincident. In this paper numerical simulations are performed wit… Show more

“…However use of a very strong message may compromise the privacy of the message transmission. It is possible to identify optimized regimes of operations where those requirements are balanced 96 . The privacy of chaos communications rests on hardware keys and notably the device parameters of the transmitter and receiver lasers which need to be rather closely matched to achieve high-quality synchronization.…”

“…Feedback is also used in controlling the dynamic systems with various modulation types [56][57][58]. Another use of feedback is to achieve wavelength stability [59] of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems through the adjustment of cross-correlation level by setting up the DC bias current [60].…”
