Optimal structural remodelling — simulation by virtual distortions

Abstract: SUMMARYA numerical method for simulation of optimal structural redesign by virtual distortions is presented. First, the idea of the simulation technique is discussed in the case of truss structures and then the application to the case of in-plane loaded plates is made. The optimal results for the class of continuous solutions as well as for Michell's pseudocontinuums are reached.
