Optimal support techniques when providing mechanical ventilation to patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome

Abstract: It is important that nurses have underlying knowledge of both aetiology of ARDS and ventilation management, and that they monitor patients very closely. The adoption of a low tidal ventilation protocol, which is based on quality evidence guidelines, the value of rescue therapies and patient observation practices in the overall patient management, and the need to place emphasis on long-term patient outcomes, all these emerge as key factors for consideration and future research. However, there is also a need for… Show more

“…Uygun olmayan mekanik ventilasyon ARDS gelişimine veya hastalığın şiddetlenmesine neden olabilmektedir (Ranieri ve ark., 2012). Bu yüzden, mekanik ventilasyondaki hastanın bakımını üstlenen klinik tedavi uzmanının yeterli seviyede uzmanlık bilgisi ve yeteneği olmalıdır (Parissopoulos, Mpouzika, & Timmins, 2015). Mekanik ventilasyon akciğer epitelyum ve endotel hücrelerinde, lokal enflamasyonu arttıran gerilme ve kesme kuvvetlerine neden olabilmektedir (Gattinoni ve ark., 2006;Walkey ve ark., 2012).…”

“…Mortalities associated with adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) remain high within the intensive care unit (ICU) population, with this in mind Parissopoulus et al () review the evidence to determine what mechanical ventilation techniques are most effective in supporting and in optimizing patient outcomes. A further ambition of this paper also included the development of clear guidelines to support critical care nurses making informed decisions about care delivery.…”
