Optimal voltage control by wind farms using data mining techniques

Abstract: Owing to the rapid growth in the use of wind power, there is a need to carry out an evaluation of the frequency and voltage control of this technology. This study focuses on the voltage control of the evacuation network which connects different wind farms to the transmission network bus. The main contribution of this study is to present a novel real time algorithm which can be used as an alternative to classical techniques such as optimal power flow or artificial intelligence to determine the amount of reactiv… Show more

“…In this case, the equations in (5) with differentiation in λ specifically lead to the traditional power flow equations [5,7], which must be satisfied in the optimization process. These equations are the balance of active power injection, at PQ and PV buses, and reactive power injection, at PQ buses:…”

“…Four data-mining approaches for wind turbine power curve monitoring are compared in [103]. An optimal voltage control is proposed in for a MG [104] using data mining techniques: regression rules to estimate the optimum reactive power of the wind farms and classification trees to estimate the optimum transformer taps.…”

“…In previous work, many scholars have investigated reactive power and voltage control strategy for wind power plants centralized region [12][13][14][15][16][17]. These studies mainly focus on the characteristics of reactive power compensation equipment in wind power plants and central substations, utilizing the operation information based on the time section that the voltage control cycle begin to decrease the power loss of WPPC [12][13][14] or to reduce the voltage deviation of the pilot nodes [15][16][17].…”
