Optimization of Alkaline Protease Production by Solibacillus silvestris, Isolated from Gir Region of Gujarat

Abstract: Objectives: Microbes from Mangrove ecosystem have the ability to produce useful primary and secondary metabolites of biotechnological significance and hence the objective of this study is to optimize the production of bacterial alkaline protease from a Mangrove isolate Solibacillus silvestris. Methodology: The bacterium (named as Madhwad 10 −3 Summer Zobell) used in the present study was isolated from the soil collected from Madhwad, Gir, India in summer season and was identified using MALDI-TOF (Mass spectrom… Show more

“…It is therefore not surprising that they are making an impressive appearance in such a unique and little understood ecosystem as the soil of cottage industry producing Ponmo. It is equally of interest that just like the Anoxybacillus, Solibacillus are receiving attention as potential sources of value-added products, especially enzymes (Kharadi et al, 2020). Thus, the biostimulation with CFMM dramatically altered the community structure in favour of unique, rarely isolated and physiologically versatile strain which deserve to be further explored by isolating and properly characterizing them.…”

“…Mangrove samples from Thuwal, a coastal location in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia have been used to isolate hydrolytic enzyme-producing bacteria which were further investigated for antifungal properties as well [28]. Similarly, an alkaline protease producing Solibacillus silvestris exhibiting a maximum of 258.75 U/mL alkaline protease activity, has also been reported from the Gir mangrove region in India [29].…”

“…A wide variety of soil microorganisms (Aftab et al, 2006;Palsaniya et al, 2012;Sinha et al, 2013;Chauhan et al, 2020;Jadhav et al, 2020;Farooq et al, 2021;Hashmi et al, 2022) and strains isolated from mangrove ecosystems can produce proteases. Microbes isolated from mangrove ecosystems have a rapid growth rate in a limited space and are easy to genetically manipulate to produce new modified protease enzymes (Kharadi et al, 2020). Moreover, strains isolated from soda lakes and deserts can grow at an extremely alkaline pH and produce naturally stable alkaline enzymes.…”
