“…The five main steps of the original picture procession by MATLAB image software: The threshold value for a given image is calculated by the automatic threshold value segmentation, such as “m” for the mean and σ for the variance, and then the threshold value is m + 2σ. These are black zones that are caused by light reflection or hollowness in the bubbles in segmented pictures, and the morphological operation was applied to do seven closed operations on the bubbles to repair and fill them. The bubbles fused with the boundary were found at the joint regions, and the overlapped bubbles and the individual bubbles were distinguished by the areas or shapes of the bubbles. Ellipse detection was performed by using the Hough transform, and the threshold value of the Hough transform was set to detect individual bubbles. Detected the long and short axis of each bubble in consecutive frames of the image. As shown in Figure 3, no less than 1000 bubbles have been analyzed under each working condition, and the equivalent diameter d i of the bubbles can be obtained by Equation (): digoodbreak=2a2b3 where a is the semimajor axis of the bubble and b is the semiminor axis of the bubble. Referred to Liu et al, 3 the Sauter mean diameter ( d 32 ) was utilized to characterize the average diameter of the bubble group, as shown in Equation (): d32goodbreak=i=1ndi3i=1ndi2 Egoodbreak=ba where E is the aspect ratio of the bubble. Equation () d 32 represents the Sauter mean diameter of the bubble group, and n is the number of bubbles.…”
