Optimization of machining parameters in turning operation using combined TOPSIS and AHP method

Abstract: Original scientific paper Multi objective optimization is an important issue in complex industrial problems. In this experimental study, optimum machining parameters are determined in turning operation of EN25 steel with coated carbide tools using combined Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. This technique is a multi-objective optimization method which has been adopted to simultaneously minimize micro hardness, surface roughness a… Show more

“…Its main goal is the optimization of manufacturing processes in the conceptual stage of product development, through the selection of possible manufacturing processes on the basis of a large number of product attributes and finally, their multi-criteria evaluation and ranking. AHP (Analitic hierarchy process) method as one of the most important MCDM methods is used for defining weight coefficients (weights) [31][32][33][34]. Verification of the system was performed in the case of selecting the best primary manufacturing process for hip joint endoprosthesis body.…”

“…Singaravel and Selvaraj [7] studied the problem mentioned in the case of turning EN 25 steel with coated carbide tools. Two methods (technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) and analytic hierarchy process (AHP)) were combined to simultaneously minimize the microhardness and surface roughness of the cut surface and to maximize the material removal rate.…”

“…Optimization in engineering terms represents a procedure of maximization or minimization of goal or goals within available resources, with the satisfaction of limitations that objectively exist [3]. It is assumed that the problem has a "surplus" of internal degrees of freedom, which are becoming variables of the optimization process.…”
