Optimization of Real Power Loss and Voltage Stability Index for Distribution Systems with Distributed Generation

Abstract: Integrating Distributed Generation (DG) units into distribution systems can have an impact on the voltage profile, power flow, power losses, and voltage stability. In this paper, a new methodology for DG location and sizing are developed to minimize system losses and maximize voltage stability index (VSI). A proper allocation of DG has to be determined using the fuzzy ranking method to verify best compromised solutions and achieve maximum benefits. Synchronous machines are utilized and its power factor is opti… Show more

“…On the other hand, the distributed generation (DG) concept [7] has been emerged to fulfill the increase in load demand. DG has a great effect on enhancing the technical benefits of electrical distribution systems such as improving VSI and the voltage regulation, and reducing the total energy losses [8]. DG technologies have different types including traditional types, such as the diesel generators, and non-traditional types such as renewable energy sources (RES) [9], [10].…”

“…This reason motivates to discuss the combination of different DG types to enhance the technical and the economic benefits of the distribution system. The typically available size per module for different DG types is presented in [8]. The effect of different DG technologies in improving VSI is presented in [16].…”

“…The algorithm can handle different load models, load levels, and transformer tapping; and the convergence is guaranteed even for heavy loaded systems. In addition, it can be applied for passive and active RDNs that includes DG units as in [37] and it may be also useful in discussing the quality issues as in [38] or [39][40][41] if it is modified to deal with a voltage unbalance. The DG optimization problem is discussed briefly to check the convergence rate.…”
