Abstract:Plant cell cultures of Silybum marianum L. are studied under different classes of elicitors including heavy metal ions (Ag+), polysaccharides (yeast extract and chitosan), and plant response signaling compounds (salicylic acid) in order to enhance silybin production. Remarkably, all elicitors enhanced the accumulation of silybin compared to the control experiment, but the highest total silybin content was achieved in cell suspensions elicited with yeast extract at 0.5 μg.ml−1 producing a total silybin yield at… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
