Optimization of the compositions area of radiotransparent ceramic in the SrO-Al2O3-SiO2 system

Abstract: This work presents the results of optimization of the compositions area of radiotransparent ceramic. Theoretical calculation of free Gibbs energy proves the possibility of the formation of strontium anorthite phase for every composition of Sheffe plan. As a result of laboratory samples test, graphic dependences "composition-property" was obtained, the choice of the most technologically advanced composition area and sintering temperature for manufacturing the radiotransparent ceramic was substantiated. The opti… Show more

“…At present, the specialists' efforts are aimed at obtaining effective radio-transparent ceramic materials with a reduced firing temperature. The authors of [11] devised a technology for manufacturing radio-transparent materials based on strontium anorthite with a SrAl 2 Si 2 O 8 synthesis temperature of 1,250 °C with the article firing temperature of 1,350 °C. A given technology enables obtaining densely baked RTM (water absorption is W=0.08 %) with an oper-The compounds in Table 1 possess a set of all required properties and are potentially suitable for the synthesis of radio transparent ceramics.…”

“…Materials based on the SrO-Al 2 O 3 system are known to possess a wide spectrum of valuable properties, which are promising in many areas of science and industry. [1][2][3][4][5] However, synthesis and application of the materials based on the SrO-Al 2 O 3 system can take place under extreme conditions, including thermal shocks or prolonged heating, which emphasizes the importance of studying physicochemical properties of this system at high temperatures. Among these characteristics, information on the vaporization processes and thermodynamic properties at high temperatures is of exceptional significance.…”

“…At present, quartz ceramics is commonly used as an effective heat-resistant material [2][3][4], along with the wide range of high-temperature glassceramic materials obtained primarily on the basis of aluminosilicate systems [5][6][7][8][9]. Expansion of the applications of products made of glass-ceramic materials requires continuous development of new materials with increased thermal resistance indices.…”

“…Many of glasses have a narrow temperature range of glass transition, which is shifted, towards higher temperatures. Another difficulty is an increased tendency of glasses to crystallization in the temperature range of billets forming [9]. For example, melting of glasses to obtain glass-ceramic materials of -eucryptite composition is carried out at the relatively low temperature of 1450 0 Ñ.…”
