Optimization of Ultrasonic Assisted Extraction and Bioactivity of Ophiopogon japonicus Polysaccharides by Response Surface Methodology

Abstract: A Box–Behnken design (BBD) of response surface methodology (RSM) is employed to further optimize ultrasonic‐assisted extraction conditions for Ophiopogon japonicus polysaccharides. The results show that optimized extraction conditions are liquid–solid ratio of 22:1 mL g−1, ultrasonic time of 27 min, and ultrasonic power of 200 W. Under these conditions, the mean experimental value of extraction yield (39.49%) is achieved, which is 1.33 times that of distilled water leaching extraction (29.68%). In addition, on… Show more

“…Glycans are regarded as an important class of medicinal substances in tonic Chinese medicinal materials and have gradually attracted the attention of researchers in China and overseas. Increasing in vitro and in vivo experimental evidence shows that glycan preparations (polysaccharides, oligosaccharides, and monosaccharides) derived from tonic Chinese herbs have antitumor, antioxidant, intestinal flora–regulatory, anti‐inflammatory, anti‐infective, and immunomodulatory activities, [1–4] thereby indicating their potential as drugs and nutrients. The chemical identification and structural analysis of Chinese herbal glycans are important aspects of studying the basis and mechanism of their effects.…”

“…[1] It contains naturally occurring vitamins, polysaccharides, polyphenols, and has high antioxidant, aging, anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic, and hypotensive effects. [2][3][4] Based on data published by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the annual DOI: 10.1002/star.202300157 production of melon fruit in the world is more than 40 million tonnes, producing a great quantity of viands products. However, these manufacturing activities also produce around 8-20 million tonnes of by-products like peels every year.…”
