Optimization of Wear Performance of Electroless Ni-B Coating under Lubrication

Abstract: Abstract. This paper presents an experimental study on tribological behavior of electroless Ni-B coating under lubricated condition based on Taguchi's method. Mild steel specimens are used as the substrate material for the deposition of Ni-B coating and the thickness of the deposits is found to be around 35 µm. Based on Taguchi's L 27 orthogonal array of experiments, the wear tests are done on a pin-on-disc type tribotester This experiment is carried out by utilizing the combination of process parameters of th… Show more

Ç elik et al 25 attributed the low COF and high wear resistance to the cauliflower like structure of Ni-B coating, which acts as rigid greaser thereby reducing abrasive effect.…”

“…The friction and wear behavior of EN coatings under lubricated condition has been reported in several research works [13][14][15][16][17][18]. The tribological behavior of borohydride reduced Ni-B alloy coatings under oil lubrication has also been addressed [19][20][21]. The results obtained from the studies of tribological behavior of Ni-P, Ni-P-PTFE, Ni-P-Cu, Ni-P-CNT and Ni-B coatings indicated that the deposits have tremendous friction and wear reduction capabilities under lubricated condition.…”
