Purpose The purpose of this study is to systematically review the existing literature on the blood supply chain (BSC) from a network design perspective and highlight the research gaps in this area. Moreover, it also aims to pinpoint new research opportunities based on the recent innovative technologies for the BSC network design. Design/methodology/approach The study gives a comprehensive systematic review of the BSC network design studies until October 2021. This review was carried out in accordance with preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA). In the literature review, a total of 87 studies were analyzed under six main categories as model structure, application model, solution approach, problem type, the parties of the supply chain and innovative technologies. Findings The results of the study present the researchers’ tendencies and preferences when designing their BSC network models. Research limitations/implications The study presents a guide for researchers and practitioners on BSC from the point of view of network design and encourages adopting innovative technologies in their BSC network designs. Originality/value The study provides a comprehensive systematic review of related studies from the BSC network design perspective and explores research gaps in the collection and distribution processes. Furthermore, it addresses innovative research opportunities by using innovative technologies in the area of BSC network design.

This paper adopts a blockchain fusion neural network algorithm to conduct an in-depth study on the model of agricultural cold chain coordination. We aim to enable HDFS to meet the demand of storing many small files of various types generated by various stages of agricultural cold chain coordination and then propose an improved balanced merging and index caching strategy based on file types and size grouping. The main three modules are the file preprocessing module, file balanced merging module, and index caching module. The experimental results show that this method can significantly improve the overall performance of HDFS when storing and reading large amounts of small files. Simulation experiments using the UCI test dataset show that the improved spectral clustering algorithm not only reduces the error rate but also significantly reduces the time spent on the clustering process, demonstrating the effectiveness and feasibility of the improved spectral clustering algorithm. The improved spectral clustering algorithm of this paper is used to cluster and analyze nearly one thousand cold chain coordination-related data, and the optimal city is successfully selected as the construction point of a large cold storage transit station. This study can effectively improve the efficiency of cold chain coordination resources and their time utilization and maximize the profit creation for cold chain coordination enterprises, selecting data features for prediction, experimenting with different models and parameters to optimize accuracy, and embedding the resulting learning system for prediction and further operations. The two models of coordination market demand forecasting models and methods are analyzed separately. Finally, after analyzing the prediction results of the two different prediction methods, it is found that it conforms to the actual situation of coordination development in Jiangxi Province. It shows that the coordination market prediction model established in this paper is meaningful and the prediction analysis made has some practical value.

Purpose: The aim of the study was to analyze the challenges faced by SME companies and analyze the opportunities and challenges in the supply chain logistics sector and analyze the best practices and techniques for the optimization of supply chain and logistics. Design/methodology/approach: Exploratory research was carried out using the secondary data collected from the Supply Chain Logistics companies and the analysis of the study was carried out using prior academic literature. Findings: From the study, it was found that the major challenges faced by SMEs in Oman were the lack of finance, lack of marketing knowledge, operational limitations, and lack of entrepreneurial culture and managerial skills. The opportunities in the supply chain sector included the Location, Infrastructure, Economic Opportunities, and Economic Diversification of Oman along with challenges like Human Resource Competency, Competition, Connection, Technology, and Transactions. Research limitations/implications: Based on the results, it was recommended that SMEs should focus on improving their Human Resource Competency, and gain a competitive advantage through optimization of supply chain and logistics activities using technology and implementing optimization strategies. Social Implications: The findings from this study have provided an academic and empirical contribution to the cargo and logistics companies and the SME community in Oman. Furthermore, provides contextual and managerial contributions to the literature on the optimization of supply chain logistics in SMEs. Originality / Value: No prior studies were found addressing optimization challenges and opportunities faced by SME cargo and logistics companies. Through this theoretical study, the researcher attempted to shed light on and tackle this situation.
