Optimized sintering and mechanical properties of Y-TZP ceramics for dental restorations by adding lithium disilicate glass ceramics

Abstract: The novel dental ceramics can be fabricated at lower temperatures when sol-gel derived lithium disilicate glass ceramics (LDGC) was used as an additive for yttria stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystalline (Y-TZP) ceramics. The effect of LDGC on the sintering, mechanical, and translucent properties of Y-TZP ceramics was investigated in the present study. The results showed that the LDGC additive effectively improved the densification of Y-TZP at 1100 °C, which was much lower than the sintering temperature … Show more

“…Next, the less dense morphology of the sample S1 can be explained as follows. Firstly, the added 3Y-TZP powder (prior to sintering) is tougher and harder to compress ( Figure 2 ), and secondly, the quantity of the densification promoters may be lower [ 30 ]. On the other hand, the morphology of the sample S9 is denser ( Figure 3 ) as 5Y-TZP powder is less hard and there may be more additives for densification.…”

“…The electrolyte is considered as a heart in SOFC components because it is the pivot of the ionic migration media 1,2 . Alternative electrolyte materials have been developed in recent years, such as scandia doped zirconia, samarium doped ceria to name a few 1,3 . Yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) is considered a superior choice and has been extensively used due to its good electrochemical activity and mechanical properties 4–6 .…”

“…The construction of a composite coating to balance hydrogen permeation resistance and adaptability with metal substrates is therefore necessary. By considering great thermal stability, chemical inertness and the greatest matching thermal expansion coefficients in ceramic materials, in this study, ZrO 2 , with high thermal stability chemical inertness and good matching thermal expansion coefficients with austenitic steels [12][13][14][15], is chosen as the matrix to construct composite coatings as a hydrogen isotope permeation barrier.…”
