Optimizing Spacing of Horizontal Multistage Fractured Wells in Gas Reservoirs

Abstract: The growing demand for gas in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the availability of multistage fracturing (MSF) of horizontal well technology have opened up the development of tight gas reservoirs throughout the country. Draining the reservoir efficiently using MSF strongly depends on well spacing, especially for low permeability reservoirs. The majority of the work done by the industry to find the optimum well spacing was based on economic considerations. Saudi Aramco optimizes field development based on sustai… Show more

“…At the same time, the fracturing scenarios (e.g. simultaneous, sequential and alternate fracturing) and the cluster spacing between the initial perforations in horizontal wells require further consideration; specifically, compressional effects and stratal movement should be analyzed (Alghannam and Rahim, 2014;Manr ıquez, 2018;Manr ıquez et al, 2017;Ziarani et al, 2014).…”

“…Therefore, the cluster spaces between the initial perforations in a horizontal wells and fracturing scenarios (e.g. sequential, alternate and simultaneous fracturing) require further consideration; specifically, stratal movement and compressional effects should be analyzed (Alghannam and Rahim, 2014;Manríquez, 2018;Manríquez et al, 2017;Ziarani et al, 2014). However, few methods and technologies exist that may help elucidate the mechanisms of stratal movement and microseismicity in multistage fracturing.…”
