Optimum Design of a Hybrid PV/Wind Energy System Using Genetic Algorithm (GA)

Abstract: -In this paper, a new approach of optimum design for a Hybrid PV/Wind energy system is presented in order to assist the designers to take into consideration both the economic and ecological aspects. When the stand alone energy system having photovoltaic panels only or wind turbine only are compared with the hybrid PV/wind energy systems, the hybrid systems are more economical and reliable according to climate changes. This paper presents an optimization technique to design the hybrid PV/wind system. The hybrid… Show more

“…The comparison analysis of cost and power loss has been described in Figure . The total cost and power loss of the proposed system are compared with the existing systems as Improved Bee Algorithm (IBA), Genetic Algorithm (GA), and Teaching‐Learning Based Optimization (TLBO) . The total cost and power loss of the proposed system are compared with the Canary Islands.…”

“…In order to optimally size “PV‐wind hybrid system” combining a single battery, the work offers an optimization method called GA by Ramoji et al To achieve minimum total cost and to ensure that the load is aided consistently an optimization issue was expressed. In addition, the projected technique was used for load demand, wind speed, insolation, and also “initial cost of each component” in the system are altered.…”

“…GA techniques are subsets of evolutionary algorithms characterised as global search heuristics [6]. Although containing an elitist approach, they are considered as dynamic search techniques, with a simulation where the best individual in a generation is transferred without degradation to the next generation [40]. GA use Darwin's theory (referring to the survival of the fittest among a population) consisting of three main operations (namely selection, crossover, and mutation) and three main controlling parameters (namely population size and crossover and mutation rates) [41,42].…”

“…Creating simulation or modeling and analysis programs for the solar unit is a necessary and urgent procedure before installing the solar system because it helps to understand the unit's behavior in the actual climatic conditions of the worksite [7]. The main models usually used in studying any photovoltaic cell are; the SDM, the double-diode model (DDM), and the empirical model [8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15]. An enormous number of enhancements have been introduced in these models to simplify the model and reduce the number of its parameters.…”
