Optimum Extraction of Polysaccharide fromAreca catechuUsing Response Surface Methodology and its Antioxidant Activity

Abstract: This study was designed to investigate optimum extraction of polysaccharide from seeds of Areca catechu (AUP) and explore its antioxidant activity. Response surface methodology was performed to investigate optimum extraction parameters of AUP. The AUP was precipitated into four crude polysaccharides (AUP20, AUP40, AUP60, AUP80) by different concentrations of ethanol, respectively, then basic characteristics and antioxidant activities of AUPs were assayed. The results indicated optimum process of AUP extraction… Show more

“…It is widely recognized that the monosaccharide composition is an important factor closely related to the bioactivities of natural polysaccharides [ 51 ]. Monosaccharide composition of PSA was determined by HPLC as previously described with some modifications [ 52 ]. PSA (10 mg) was hydrolyzed by trifluoroacetic acid (TFA, 2 mol/L) at 110 °C for 5 h. Then TFA was removed under reduced pressure, and the residue was washed by methanol for three times before re-dissolving in 2 mL deionized water.…”

“…Standard monosaccharides (Mannose, Glucose, Galactose, Galactose acid, and Arabinose), and dextrans of different molecular weights were obtained from National Crude polysaccharide extraction was carried out using a method described previously [15] with some modifications. The Pinellia Rhizoma (PR) powder was extracted with 95 % ethanol (1 : 3, w/v) for 2 h by reflux.…”

“…It is well-known that polysaccharides are important biological macromolecules isolated from natural products [6]. polysaccharides derived from naturally occurring medicinal plants have been evaluated as drug candidates for treating various diseases due to their widespectrum of therapeutic activities, relative low toxicities, and minor side-effects [7,8]. However, no reports exist on the protective effect of Bupleuri Radix polysaccharide (BRP) on cardiomyocyte cells and its possible mechanisms of action on myocardial cell preservation.…”
