Orange pigment variety in Black-bellied Crimson Finch Neochmia phaeton phaeton from West Kimberley, Australia

Abstract: During standardised bird surveys in September 2021 in the West Kimberly, two independent observations of an orange pigment variety in a male Black-bellied Crimson Finch Neochmia phaeton phaeton were recorded. This is the first documented observation of a wild Black-bellied Crimson Finch with this coloration.
