Organic Bulk Heterojunction Infrared Photodiodes for Imaging Out to 1300 nm

Abstract: This work studies organic bulk heterojunction photodiodes with a wide spectral range capable of imaging out to 1.3 μm in the shortwave infrared. Adjustment of the donor-to-acceptor (polymer:fullerene) ratio shows how blend composition affects the density of states (DOS) which connects materials composition and optoelectronic properties and provides insight into features relevant to understanding dispersive transport and recombination in the narrow bandgap devices. Capacitance spectroscopy and transient photocu… Show more

“…The photodetector current was amplified by a low-noise amplifier and subsequently recorded by a lock-in amplifier (SRS 510). [42][43][44] Long-pass filters with cut-off wavelength at 455, 780, and 1100 nm were used to eliminate second-order harmonics in the spectra. During the optical measurements, the sample charge/discharge current was simultaneously monitored by the SP-200 potentiostat.…”

“…In short, a rapid change in the slope ∂C(ω)/∂ln(ω) reflects an increase of the subbandgap DOS. The DOS measured at the energy E ω is expressed as an exponential distribution of bandtail shallow traps 26,27 , and it may include a Gaussian distribution of deep traps 25,28 , if they are present:…”

“…The incident light power is measured with a Ge photodiode (818-IR, Newport Corporation) for 780−1400 nm range and a Si photodiode (DET36A, Thorlabs) for 460−780 nm. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was performed with a potentiostat (SP200, Bio-logic) over the frequency range of 100 Hz to 2 MHz with a 100 mV amplitude, 39 with the phototransistor gate electrode floating.…”
