Organic Matter, Protein Percentage, Yield, Competition and Economics of Oat-Soybean and Oat-Groundnut Intercropping Systems in Northern China

Abstract: Intercropping is one of the most important and sustaibale cropping practice in agro-ecosystems. The study was conducted under field conditions in the arid Horqine sandy land in Baicheng District, Jilin Province, Northern China in 2011. A randomized complete block design with four replications was used. Treatments comprised different mono cropping and intercropping patterns, TO: sole cropping of oat, TOS-O: oat in the intercropping of oat and soybean, TOG-O: oat in the intercropping of oat and groundnut, TS: so… Show more

“…China has important potential to produce aromatic and medical plants and herbs due to its various biological diversity and different climatic conditions (Chen et al, 2013;Ogbaji et al, 2013;Shahrajabian et al, 2017;Yong et al, 2017). Aromatic plants such as anise seed have a long traditional use in both folk and conventional medicine and of course in the pharmaceutical industry (Abouzid and Mohamed, 2011;Ibrahim et al, 2017).…”

“…In the context of improving the global food situation, chemical fertilisers play a dominant role (Yazdpour et al, 2012;Shahrajabian, Soleymani, 2017a-b). Most scientists believe that increasing yield per ha is a major way for increasing crops yield (Soleymani et al, 2016;Yong et al, 2017). Due to high costs and poor accessibility of inorganic fertilisers to resource-poor farmers, other inputs are o entimes proposed as alternatives (Abedi et al, 2010;Shahri et al, 2011;Shahrajabian et al, 2013).…”

“…Appropriate agronomical managements are necessary to meet the growing needs for food production (Shahrajabian et al, 2011;Ogbaji et al, 2013;Soleymani et al, 2016;Soleymani and Shahrajabian, 2017;Shahrajabian and Soleymani, 2017;Yong et al, 2017;Abdollahi et al, 2018;Shahrajabian et al, 2018;Soleymani and Shahrajabian, 2018). Drought stress and water shortage is one of the most important restricting factors in crop production in the world (Soleymani et al, 2011;Amini et al, 2012;Ogbaji et al, 2018).…”
