Despite their usefulness in predicting future population dynamics and monitoring local environmental conditions, we only found two studies of nestling lesser kestrel growth patterns.…”

“…On the other hand, the median concentration of lindane for all species was 0.18 ng g − 1 ww/1.58 ng g − 1 lw (maximum = 33.3 ng g − 1 ww/ 567 ng g − 1 lw), lower than the one reported by Augspurger and Boynton (1998) in peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus) eggs (range = 10-30 ng g − 1 ww) that had no apparent effects on reproduction. In addition, the median concentration of HCB was 0.22 ng g − 1 ww/4.03 ng g − 1 lw (maximum = 7.46 ng g − 1 ww/65.5 ng g − 1 lw) which is below 4 μg g − 1 ww, a threshold related with biological effects in birds (Goutner et al, 2015). Therefore, these results suggest that HCB and lindane contamination do not pose a high risk to the investigated species while 4,4 ′ -DDE contamination might pose a risk to gull-billed terns and booted eagles.…”

“…With regard to pesticides, several studies have analysed their direct effects on Lesser Kestrel, which seem to be mild in recent years and insufficient to explain its population decline , Vergara et al 2007, Goutner et al 2015. More importance has been given to indirect effects of pesticide use, through a reduction in the availability of prey.…”
