“…Because, as a background study, the farmers of the study area informed that they did not apply any organochlorine pesticide but a lot of organophosphate (diazinon and chlorpyriphos) and carbamate pesticides have been applied by them in the cultivating areas. Similar findings were reported by Fatta et al (2007) in their study. Matin et al (1998) stated that DDT, DDE and dieldrin were present in some surface water samples obtained from the irrigated crop fields at Gaibandha.…”

“…The half-lives of DDT and HCH in surface soil were estimated as 6.7 and 4.9 years, respectively (Brevik et al 1996;Toan et al 2009). The impact of OCPs in aquatic organisms is more important than that of organophosphorus pesticides and considered really alarming (Alava et al 2011;Tao et al 2013) because OCP contents were higher (Serrano et al 1999;Hernández et al 2000;Fatta et al 2007). We choose to determine the OCP contents, the first generation of pesticides, because of their persistence in the environment and their alarming impact on aquatic organisms, estimating, thus, the old contamination in the Ichkeul LakeBizerta Lagoon complex.…”

“…Metal mining, fossil combustion and the chloralkali and acetaldehyde industries have raised mercury levels in water bodies and soils. Mercury enters from industrial sources mainly as Hg 2+ into the environment [9][10][11]. Physicochemical and biological processes have been applied for mercury removal from contaminated environments.…”
