Organochlorine pesticides residues in feed and muscle of farmed Nile tilapia from Brazilian fish farms

Abstract: Organochlorine pesticide (OCP) concentrations were determined in fish muscle and feed collected from four different fish farms in Brazil. Nile tilapia from two growth stages, juveniles and adults, collected at two intensive tanks farms (IT1 and IT2) and two net cage farms (NC1 and NC2), were analyzed by High Resolution Gas Chromatography/High Resolution Mass Spectrometry. Pesticides were detected in almost all samples, but no samples exceeded international maximum limits for safe fish consumption. ΣDDT was the… Show more

“…Two pretreatment methods, reported previously (Botaro et al, 2011;Wang et al, 2009;Zhu et al, 2012), were used to extract and concentrate OCPs and the three other types of organic pollutants (PBDEs, PCBs and HBCDs) from the samples. A detailed description of the pretreatment methods can be found in the Supplementary content.…”

“…Although most of them were banned decades ago, they can still be found in the environment especially in biological matrices. Simultaneous determination of both families of compounds has been also investigated in aquatic and food samples . Thus, legislation controls their content in different matrices; in fact some of them are included in the list of persistent organic pollutants .…”
