Organogelating and narcissistic self-sorting behaviour of non-preorganized oligoamides

Abstract: Depending on the length (n) and the nature of the end group (X), structurally flexible oligoamides OAT and OATe were found to be good organogelators and their mixtures showed narcissistic self-sorting in both the xerogel and wet gel states.

“…When different molecules self-assemble, one of three outcomes may result: social sorting, , where a statistical distribution of products is observed, narcissistic sorting, where components self-recognize and generate homoleptic architectures, or integrative self-sorting, during which all components are assimilated into a single product. Other sorting modes have recently been discovered, including biased sorting regimes and those driven by kinetic trapping, stereochemical differences, , or template-induced sorting …”

“…However, this increasing M w effect rapidly levels off once the DP value is >20. 30,31 Hence, in the case of isomeric polymers where the DP value is normally >50, the difference in the gelation strength is not due to their M w difference but originated from the difference in their molecular structure. The polydispersity index values were also determined to be 3.3 and 2.0, respectively, for P-1 and P-2.…”

“…[18,19] In synthetic polymers, careful design DOI: 10.1002/macp.202300151 and systematic placements of the interacting functional groups within the polymer structures have been shown to enable highfidelity self-sorting. [20] Polysiloxanes (Si─O─Si backbone containing polymers) are highly valued synthetic polymers used across many specialty applications such as Cosmetics, Agriculture, Industrial, Automotive, Aerospace, Healthcare, and Constructions, amounting to ≈15b US $ market size globally. [21][22][23] Many of these applications rely on the controlled segmental mobilities at range of different application temperatures, shear, and processing conditions.…”
