A Typology of Description on the Site-Plan Drawings in the Japanese Contemporary Houses

This study aims to clarify the typology of the way on the architectural site-plan drawings by means of paying attention to its direction, drawing range and the drawing arrangement concerned with the circumference environment of the actual condition.To achieve above, 215 examples published considering directions other than north; standard direction as the drawing upper part among the site-plans of "houses built by high-density city environment" where the more abundant numbers of datum are obtained is made applicable to analysis in this study.As the conclusion, it is extracted that 14 types of the description on the site-plan drawings and 3 sorts of meanings that the site-plans shown.

The objective of this study is to represent graphically the structure underlying and forming our experience of walking around traditional Japanese gardens. Particularly, we pay attention to the spatial schema that gives meanings to physical formation of the elements composing the gardens and the person who experiences them. We propose a method of schematizing the characteristics of the experience of space. The summary of the research method of schematizing is as followed: First, we experience the space and make narratives. Then, we group the narratives by KJ method and make sentences of each group. We made rules that we apply words to kinethetic image schemata and rules that we divide the sentences to several scene. Finally, we represent each scene by graphic figure.

The objective of this study is to extract a schema of a person who experience a space and to represent it graphically systematically by operating sentences which represent experience of space. When we experience a building and a garden, the schema directs us to perceive things, and positions ourselves in the space. In the field of architectural planning, it is important to focus on a person's behaviors in a space. Expressing behaviors and space by physical schemata would make us understand the space and experience more easily.
