MEGAURETER with normal micturition cystography constitutes a well-defined entity in padiatric urology. The terminal part of the ureter resists free urinary flow and during urography, contrast medium retention may be observed for hours. The operative specimen shows a distinct border between the dilated and narrowed parts of the ureter (Fig. 1).The ureteric orifice may be narrow and the calibre of the ureter reduced. The pathogenesis is unknown, and both organic (Bischoff and Busch, 1961;Rudhe and Ericsson, 1967) and functional (Johnston, 1967) stenosis have been claimed. The condition has been regarded as a benign lesion with little tendency to progression (Williams, 1958).We here present our results in 22 children with lower ureteric obstruction.
