In the specific case of POL, the formation of homodimers might have been selected during the evolution race, probably as a response to the progressive cooling of the Antarctic continent, about 25 Mya (Cowart et al, 2022;Rogers et al, 2007). Although less efficient against temperate to thermophilic bacterial strains, peptide dimerization might be advantageous against polar psychrophilic microbes and such hypothesis as well as the structural conformation of POL still need to be investigated.…”
