Origin of barite deposits in dolomite-limestone units, Gazipasa, Eastern of Antalya: geology, geochemistry, statistics, sulfur isotope composition

Abstract: Gazipasa region is one of the most important barite mineralization of Turkey. To investigate the main origin properties of Gazipasa barite deposits, conditions of their genesis and occurrence. Methods. To investigate the basic geological, geochemical, mineralogical, statistical, sulfur isotopic properties of Gazipasa barite deposits, conditions of their genesis and occurrence. Findings. Paragenesis of barites deposits can be presented as barite, galena sphalerite, pyrite, limonite, quartz and calcite. Also, th… Show more

“…Barite, lead, and zinc deposits, which are above the mining limit, are generally located in the Alanya and Gazipaşa districts in the east of Antalya. The region has barite deposits containing BaSO4 with almost 95-100% purity (Kursun & Yalcin, 2020).…”

“…During laterization, lateritic material, which was transported as a result of transgressive movements by superficial events (mechanical mobility), moved to Beydaglari formation, which consists of the Upper Cretaceous limestones. This movement occurs through Elmali formation, which covers the vast majority of the study area and consists of the Upper Lutetian-Lower Burdigalian sandstone, claystone, siltstone, and limestone [88]- [91]. As a result of these movements, the SiO2 content in its chemical composition decreased, and it formed ferritic bauxite.…”

“…It is also a component of pesticides for extermination of rodents and insects. Barite is used in glass production, pyrotechnics (manufacture of signal rockets, detonators) and construction (in protective coatings and plasters against X-rays and radioactive radiation) [5]. There are currently six barite deposits in Slovakia, while only one is mined.…”
