Origin of Ovarian Cancer: Molecular Profiling

Abstract: This is a review on the transition from our empirical approach to treat ovarian cancer to a specific treatment based on molecular signature. We have reviewed not only the evidence-based medicine focused on the origin and tumor morphology of ovarian cancer but also the molecular signature era based on molecular phenotyping of the tumor and its microenvironment, which influences the direct targeted therapy. Evidence-based medicine has shown that the targeted therapy studies are mainly biomarker driven, more focu… Show more

“…Previously, it was hypothesized that tubal ligation is a significant protective factor in ovarian malignancies [9]. But the latest research [10] has made clear that tubal ligation protects only against Clear cell and Endometrioid ovarian cancers as they ''p'' = ns migrate from the endometrium, whereas the Serous cancers arise from the fimbrial end of the fallopian tube, and Mucinous and Brenner tumors originate from Walthard cell nests which are not protected by tubal ligation. As there are no cases of Clear cell and Endometrioid cancers in our study, exact correlation between tubal ligation and specific histological pattern Ovarian cancer is not possible.…”

“…Hence, it is applied in various industrial fields, including textile production, food processing, and agriculture. 4,5) Additionally, GlcNAc oligomers prepared from chitin have useful biological activities, including immunostimulation and the induction of plant defense responses. 6) Moreover, GlcNAc monomers can be used as sweeteners and nutritional supplements.…”

“…Figure 1 shows the chemical structures of these two compounds, chitin (R=C(O)CH 3 ) and chitosan (R=H). After cellulose, chitin is the most abundant naturally occurring polymer (4)(5)(6). It is composed of linear chains of poly(β-(1-4)-N-acetyl-D-glucosamine) and is present in crustacean shells as ordered crystalline microfibrils forming a complex structure with associated proteins, minerals and lipids.…”
