Marine bioinvasions are a centuries-old phenomenon (Carlton, 1996;Ojaveer et al., 2018). However, in the past few decades human activities have dramatically accelerated their pace all over the world (Carlton, 1996;Fowler et al., 2020). Like other global environmental issues, the spatial and temporal extent of marine bioinvasions is subject to increasing observational efforts (Sagarin & Pauchard, 2010), especially in areas like the Mediterranean Sea, which is a major invasion hotspot (Edelist et al., 2013). This basin, which is naturally rich in
