“…The aim of this scoping review was to provide an evidence-based overview of the literature available on multiple aspects of patient adherence in orthodontics and identify knowledge gaps. There are no other comprehensive reviews available on patient adherence in orthodontics, only reviews on specific topics of adherence such as the wear time of removable appliances during active treatment [ 1 , 77 ], methods to improve adherence to oral hygiene instructions [ 78 , 79 ] and the effect of mobile apps and reminder messages on patient adherence [ 80 83 ]. By maintaining a broad research topic it was possible to provide a more comprehensive overview of adherence in orthodontics which created the opportunity to identify knowledge gaps important to every oral healthcare professional practicing orthodontics.…”
