The last two decades witnessed tremendous research interest on composite materials, especially composite electroceramics. Composite electroceramic materials having flexible fabrication techniques and a wide range of properties are employed for many functional applications. This article gives a brief review of some of the fundamental aspect of composites such as, sum and product properties, connectivity patterns, dielectric mixing rules, and symmetry of composite materials. This article also provides an introduction to recent trends in electroceramic composite research such as composite dielectrics, magnetoelectric composites, composite varistors, tunable composites, composite metamaterials, low temperature co‐fired ceramic composite, and superconducting and percolating composites.
